This is a degenerative disease of the cerebral cortex in the brain that is characterised by the gradual and progressive loss of mental faculties. This condition can affect both sexes in middle and old age.
Note:
1. It may be prudent to first have a hair analysis done to rule out the possibility of heavy metal poisoning.
2. The symptoms of alcohol abuse and Alzheimer’s can be very similar.
3. It is important to rule out a vitamin B12 deficiency before accepting an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. If there is a positive response to a course of b12 injections Alzheimer’s may be ruled out.
4. Regular exercise throughout adulthood as well as refraining from smoking may minimise the risk of developing Alzheimer’s.
Symptoms:
In general, there is a progressive deterioration in mental and physical abilities including memory loss.Warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease:
1. Memory loss that may start affecting job performance
2. A difficulty in performing familiar or simple tasks.
3. Problems with language occur when inappropriate words are often used making speech incomprehensible.
4. Disorientation to time and place, such as getting lost in a familiar environment, not knowing how to get home, etc
5. Poor or decreased judgment
6. Problems with abstract thinking, adding numbers, etc
7. Misplacing things.
Changes in mood or behavior, often exhibiting rapid mood swings
8. Uncharacteristic personality changes may occur.
9. The ability to smell may diminish in some cases up to two years prior to the beginning of the mental decline
In the late stages, there may be an inability to speak with total incontinence, paralysis and a total loss of memory may also occur.
Treatments:
1. Intravenous ozone therapy.
2. Studies have shown that the use of antioxidants can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
3. DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) may assist in preventing Alzheimer’s disease.
4. Conventional treatments may involve various drugs still in clinical trials

a. Refrain from drinking tap water as it may contain aluminum, instead only consume eight glasses of steam distilled water daily.

Causes:
No definitive cause has yet been established by researchers, although some believe that there is a connection with the deposits of aluminum found in the brain through contamination, by using aluminum cookware and other products containing this metal.
Alzheimer’s is also thought to be caused by the abnormal build-up of proteins in and around brain cells.
