Endometriosis occurs when the cells in the inner mucous layer of the uterus (endometrium) grow elsewhere/outside of the uterus (they are not able to be expelled during menstruation), these cells usually attach themselves to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterine muscle, bowel or bladder.
This condition can affect menstruating females between puberty and menopause. Endometriosis may eventually lead to pelvic cysts or infertility.
Regular gynecological checkups are recommended.1. Heavy periods which may include the passing of large clots. Iron-deficient anemia may result due to excessive bleeding.
2. Pelvic pains (dull, aching, cramping pains).
