Alopecia is a loss of hair that may have several different causes, such as endocrine disorders, autoimmune disorders (e.g. SLE), systemic disease, pharmacotherapy toxicity, menopause, dermatologic disorders, tissue damage, adverse effects of hair preparations.
Symptoms:
In the majority of cases, hair falls out in small patches. For most people, the hair loss is nothing more than a few patches, though in some cases it can be more extreme.
Alopecia, can lead to the complete loss of hair on the scalp (alopecia totalis) or, in extreme cases, the entire body (alopecia universalis).
Treatments:
Depending on the type of alopecia, daily scalp massages may be beneficial. Using shampoos and conditioners that contain biotin, silica, Aloe vera gel, jojoba, vitamins C and E are also beneficial.Limit long exposure to seawater and sunlight as these can damage hair.
Regular physical exercise 3 or 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes to stimulate circulation. Stress reduction is an important part of a treatment program. Take leisure walks and do relaxation and breathing exercises.
Causes:

1. Alopecia areata: A non-inflammatory loss of circumscribed areas of hair on scalp, beard, or eyebrows.
2. Alopecia congenitalis: absence of all hair at birth
3 alopecia marginalis: loss of hair at the hairline; more commonly seen in the black population and may be secondary to seborrheic dermatitis
4. Postpartum alopecia: temporary diffuse loss of hair at the termination of pregnancy.
5. Trichotillomania: loss of hair from being pulled out by the patient, usually a nervous or neurotic condition.
Underlying Emotions:
Feelings of disconnection from masculine/feminine power. A lack of emotional freedom in childhood. Personal power is often drawn from anger. Unbalanced boundaries can cause resentment especially when others’ interests are constantly placed over our own. Feeling an obligation to help others often neglecting our own needs. Longing for independence and freedom is often experienced.
Diet:
A diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in starch is recommended.
Consume foods rich in Silicon: alfalfa, comfrey, young horsetail, nettles, onions, and kelp.
Foods containing biotin, such as whole grains, seeds, nuts, oats, buckwheat, barley, sesame seeds, rye, millet, brown rice, goat milk as yogurt or kefir, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, brewer’s yeast, wheat germ are also beneficial.
Avoid salt, sugar, and alcohol.
