Lecithin

Lecithin is a naturally occurring fatty substance that can be found in various plant and animal tissues. It is a type of phospholipid, a class of lipids that are essential components of cell membranes. Lecithin is commonly extracted from sources like soybeans, eggs, sunflower seeds, and can also be found in some animal tissues.

Lecithin is used in some pharmaceutical and cosmetic products as an emulsifier, stabilizer, or dispersant. In addition to its emulsifying properties, lecithin is believed to have potential health benefits. It contains choline, a nutrient important for brain health, liver function, and nerve signaling.

It’s essential to note that most commercially used lecithin is extracted from soybeans, making it a common allergen for individuals with soy allergies. However, non-soy lecithin options, such as sunflower lecithin, are available as alternatives for those with soy sensitivities.
