Influenza

1. Influenza is a contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. Symptoms can range from mild to severe. Influenza is commonly referred to as the “flu”. NOTE: The “stomach flu” is not the same as influenza (flu). Influenza is most commonly seen in the winter months.

2. Three types of flu viruses affect humans i.e. Type A, B, and C. Type A and Type B are usually responsible for the annual influenza epidemics that can affect 20 -50% of the population. Type C symptoms are generally much less severe than Type A or B. Type A is considered worse than Type B because it is more common and its symptoms tend to be more severe. Research has suggested that most adults have greater immunity to Type B. The Type B virus also mutates at a much slower rate than type A.

3. Typically influenza symptoms will appear one to four days after exposure, the symptoms can last from five to ten days.

4. Although a bout of the flu is typically uneventful to most people, the virus can be fatal to certain “high-risk” groups such as infants, the elderly, and the debilitated. People with chronic pulmonary disease, heart valve problems, and pregnant women in the third trimester are also at risk. Complications may include viral or bacterial pneumonia; hemorrhagic bronchitis; encephalitis; Reye’s syndrome; and myocarditis. Typically influenza symptoms will appear one to four days after exposure, the symptoms can last from five to ten days. The onset of flu symptoms is usually extremely abrupt and may include:
1. Headache.
2. Fever.
3. Weakness and fatigue.
4. Coughing and sneezing
5. Sore throat.
6. Body aches and pains
7. Loss of appetite
8. Hot and cold sweats

If you are over 65 or should your symptoms worsen or include the following please consult a medical professional:
1. Shortness of breath.
2. chest pains.
3. A Sudden bout of dizziness or confusion.
4. Persistent vomiting.
5. Symptoms that improve for a period but then return with fever and cough that is worse.1. Hydrate well, be sure to drink plenty of filtered water, fresh fruit juices, soups, and herbal teas to prevent dehydration. Warm lemon water with honey will help loosen congestion. Ginger tea may help fight flu in several ways since it assists with nasal congestion and also helps improve blood flow allowing the immune cells to circulate more effectively.
2. Avoid consuming dairy products and any other mucous-forming foods.
3. Get plenty of bed rest.
4. NOTE: Avoid giving ASPRIN to children under 19 with the flu. Research has shown that this is potentially dangerous and may lead to Reye’s Syndrome (“A rare but serious condition that causes confusion, swelling in the brain and liver damage”)
5. Fever is a flu defense mechanism therefore only try to suppress the fever if it goes over 39 degrees.
6. Boost the immune system with vitamin C-rich foods and immune-boosting supplementation such as Echinacea, Buffered Vitamin C, and Zinc.
7. A vaporizer or humidifier may assist by adding moisture to your environment which will help to loosen congestion.
8. For sore throats using salt water gargles (made by combining a cup of warm water and a teaspoon of salt) may be useful for easing the pain.
8. NOTE: Antibiotics combat bacterial infections and are of no use against viral infections. If however, with a throat that is still sore after a couple of days or if the pain is severe, a strep throat may be present, (a bacterial infection). Consult a medical professional to check for strep throat (A secondary infection).

2. Zinc MSM & D3 – Protects the immune system and defends against bodily invaders. Assists with viral and bacterial invaders.
3. Buffered Vitamin C – immune boosting
4. Colloidal silver – for viral and bacterial infections
5. Reishi mushrooms – immune boosting
6. Colostrum plus – Helps with gastro-intestinal diseases, and eliminates parasites, viruses, and bacteria.
7. Multi-Vitamins – required for healing and reducing stress caused by viral infections.
8. Tibb flu relief syrup – for colds and flu

The flu virus spreads when infected people cough or sneeze, thus sending droplets containing the virus into the air. These droplets can potentially find their way into the mouths or noses of nearby people. On the Emotional level contracting influenza permits us to withdraw ourselves somewhat from a particular situation that is perceived as oppressing us. We are thus able to devote all of our attention to ourselves.1.
