Description
Warts are small hard growths (benign skin tumors) caused by various strains of the human papillomavirus. Different HPV strains may cause warts in different parts of the body. Warts are contagious and able to spread from one location on the body to another. Warts may also be spread from person to person by contact with the wart.
Although warts may be found anywhere on the body they are commonly found on the fingers, hands, knees, elbows, face, souls of the feet, and forearms.
Warts may occur at any age, although they are most commonly seen in children and less commonly in the elderly.
It may take up to 6 months for growths to appear after the initial contact. They often disappear in 1 to 2 years without any treatment at all.
There are different kinds of warts:
1. Common warts
2. Plantar warts
3. Flat warts
4. Filiform
5. Venereal warts
Symptoms
Warts will appear as small, fleshy, grainy bumps. They may be flesh-colored, white, pink, tan, grey, brown, yellow, or black. They will be rough to the touch often sprinkled with black pinpoints, which are small, clotted blood vessels.
There are different kinds of warts:
1. Common warts are usually firm round or irregularly shaped, raised, and clearly delineated between 2-10 mm in diameter. Warts may appear singly or in groups, they may appear over an area of trauma.
2. Plantar warts appear on the sole of the foot, they are flat and covered by cornified skin. Plantar warts unlike common warts may be very tender to touch and cause pain with walking.
3. Flat warts are about the size of a pinhead have flat tops, and appear smoother than other kinds of warts
4. Filiform warts are made up of long, thin projections of skin often occurring around a person’s eyes or lips. Filiform warts are also called digitate or facial warts these are harmless and usually disappear without treatment.
4. Venereal warts are a fairly common sexually transmitted disease (STD). Venereal warts are cauliflower-like fleshy growths found in moist areas in and around the sex organs and are highly contagious.
Treatments
Most warts will not require treatment and will usually disappear in a year or two, however, painful warts (plantar warts) may require attention. Removal of warts may involve freezing with liquid nitrogen, topical applications, and fulguration (electric current).
Interferon injections or CO2 laser surgery may be used for stubborn genital warts.
Maintaining adequate vitamin C levels may assist in maintaining immunity against viruses that cause warts.
With genital warts, it is important to keep them dry, so after bathing or showering a hair dryer can be used on its lowest setting to dry the area. Care should be taken not to rub or irritate the wart. Sexual activity should be avoided until the warts have healed completely. It is important, especially for women who have or who suspect they may have genital warts to contact a healthcare provider since these types of warts are often linked to cervical cancer. It’s important to keep in mind that treatment for genital warts aims to remove visible warts, but it does not eliminate the underlying HPV infection. The virus can still be present in the body and may cause the warts to recur. Prevention is crucial in reducing the risk of genital warts. This includes practicing safe sex, using condoms, getting vaccinated against HPV (if available and appropriate), and maintaining open communication with sexual partners.
For common warts mixing castor oil and baking soda into a paste and applying this to the wart every night may remove the wart in 3 – 6 weeks

Causes
Warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). The specific strains of HPV that cause warts can vary, but here are the common causes and risk factors associated with the development of warts:
- Direct Contact: Warts are contagious and can be spread through direct contact with a person who has warts. This includes shaking hands, touching the affected area, or using personal items (such as towels or razors) of an infected individual.
- Skin-to-Skin Contact: Warts can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact with an individual who has warts, especially if there are cuts, abrasions, or other breaks in the skin.
- Contaminated Surfaces: HPV can survive on surfaces, such as floors, swimming pool decks, and locker room floors. Coming into contact with contaminated surfaces, especially if there are cuts or abrasions on the skin, can increase the risk of developing warts.
- Weakened Immune System: A weakened immune system can make individuals more susceptible to HPV infections and increase the likelihood of developing warts. Conditions that can weaken the immune system include HIV/AIDS, certain autoimmune disorders, and immunosuppressive medications.
- Age: Warts are more common in children and young adults. This may be due to factors such as a less mature immune system or increased exposure to the virus in communal environments, such as schools or daycare centers.
- Moist and Warm Environments: HPV thrives in warm and moist environments. Walking barefoot in public showers, locker rooms, or swimming pool areas can increase the risk of contracting HPV and developing plantar warts on the feet.
- Nail Biting and Damaged Skin: Biting or picking at nails or cuticles can create small openings in the skin, providing an entry point for the HPV virus. Similarly, any skin damage, such as cuts, scrapes, or hangnails, can make the skin more susceptible to HPV infection.
It’s important to note that not everyone who comes into contact with HPV will develop warts. The presence of the virus does not guarantee wart development, as individual immune responses play a role in whether or not warts will occur.
Underlying Emotions
Poor personal boundaries have led to being used by others. A tendency to suppress and change your own needs in order to fit in with others. Stubbornness and inflexibility,
Diet
- Eat a balanced diet: Consume a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. This will provide your body with essential nutrients and antioxidants that support immune function.
- Boost your immune system: Include foods rich in vitamin C (such as citrus fruits, berries, bell peppers) and zinc (such as nuts, seeds, legumes, and lean meats) to help strengthen your immune system.
- Include probiotics: Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can promote a healthy gut microbiome. They can be found in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi. A healthy gut microbiome is essential for overall immune health.
- Stay hydrated: Drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and support optimal immune function.
- Avoid processed foods: Minimize your intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and beverages, as they can weaken your immune system and hinder its ability to fight off infections.
- Consider immune-boosting supplements: Consult with a healthcare professional about potentially beneficial supplements such as vitamin C, zinc, or immune-supporting herbs.
